The global interaction of religion and democracy

This is interesting. Based on an analysis of survey data from 45 different countries, Pazit Ben-Nun Bloom and Gizem Arikan find that:

  • On an individual level, higher levels of religiosity are correlated with lower amounts of support for liberal democracy.
  • On the aggregate/societal level, the existence of religious communities is correlated with citizenship skills and support for liberal democracy.
