CNN’s “John Adams” music

Anyone watching the CNN election coverage tonight might notice that they have a distinctive musical “theme” that plays whenever they go to or from a commercial break. It’s the theme music from HBO’s John Adams miniseries. I know that only because I’ve watched the miniseries twice and use clips from it regularly in my Government courses. Good choice, CNN!

Does this choice of theme music from a Revolutionary War miniseries suggest the equivalent of a “shout-out” to the Tea Party? Watch that YouTube clip of the opening credits. The theme music plays while the “Don’t Tread on Me” flag ripples in the background. This flag is now a common symbol of Tea Party supporters. Coincidence???
